GO TO THE LIBRARY WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND BEFRIEND THE LIBRARIAN---PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL NOT AND DO NOT TEACH BLACK HIS/HERSTORY ALSO THEY DO NOT TEACH MILITARY HISTORY😮😮😮 😢😢😢❤❤❤😊😊😊
Told my kiddos - THIS is what they would be learning and taught by me... we spent many summers reading, listening and researching this sort of history; the stories came up organically.... from frustration of MLK and I.have.a.dream while a great speech; King had many others.... kids ask about family pictures of folks in military uniforms type of questions.
Let them read about them at home. Another beneficial service to educating children on black history and family history is to have discussions within the family. Education starts at home
I sat and watched the Netflix movie this morning. I cried, my heart hurt, I laughed and I remembered. The Power in these women is remarkable. Veteran Proud
I watched the movie last night on Netflix. These courageous black women opened the door for so many of us who served in the military! Great story. I salute them for their contribution and bravery!
Saw the movie on Netflix, i truly enjoyed it. Tyler did a great job. What awesome, brave, outstanding women. I delivered mail for 35 years and hadn't heard of these women. What an honor.
Our elders were/are so humble. They did amazing things and some don’t talk about it outright. They leave clues like “loving French culture” like the young lady did. As Black history month program manager I discovered and introduced this group to many in my organization about 2016 when the month concentrated on amazing Black women. Can’t wait to watch the movie on Friday.
I have read several books about 6668th and watched the movie on Netflix last night with my daughters. It was an amazing portrayal of courage, tenacity, pride and strength. Im going to watch it again. I highly reccomend.
This was a very enlightening show. My father taught me at a young age that we all are merely the products of our environment. So to watch a discussion between actual family members and an actress from this necessary historical drama was very interesting. Kudos to Tyler Perry for making this piece of forgotten history a reality. And kudos to Family Search for their efforts to incorporate this history. I love AncestryDNA because it has revolutionized genealogical research and I’m also passionate about reconnecting African-American History with The Republic of Liberia. This is another connection we tend to forget.
I just watched it and it was very good , I got a little emotional on some scenes. I have to give it up for Black History, we are an amazing raced of people that have been undervalued for centuries. Thank Tyler for sharing that history, great job.
You know why our mothers, fathers, grandparents don’t talk openly about the things that happened during segregation? They were not proud of it. It was embarrassing and demoralizing!!! I’ve heard so little from my family that lived through it. It something they had to do to survive. Which give me and all descendants of very proud of the path they laid for our future in America 🇺🇸. I’m so thankful for their service.
I loved this story thank Yo so much these women were such a Blessing so strong, so courageous and faithful to the Call. WOW. amazing, How can we get a full picture of this group of awesome women we women need these photos on our walls Please let us know Thank You.
Sanford FL resident Edna Burton was a WWII WAC and an effort to recover her military experience is an endeavor to showcase the Georgetown community SHE-ROES to add to archival collections. Georgetown is recognized on national, state and local Historical Registers. It is absolutey necessary to perserve our history through any means necessary. Peace and Love!
Why does it take so much for us to discover our roots; in 55 years on this earth and never heard of this story. Imagine how many more vibrant stories of our past were missing out on. This why I love books and bookstores immensely. I plan to watch the movie w my daughters as soon as my oldest get home from work. I’m so excited and have got all the snacks prepared. 🤗🤗🥰🥰
This movie about courageous, powerful African American women should be nominated for the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for best movie AND best director and Actress.
Thanks so much for posting this. Love hearing Dr. Karen speak about her family and that they told the stories. Her mother so beautiful. God bless you all and God bless the women of The Six Triple Eight!
I get goosebumps listening to this awesome history. I have a degree in history from an HBC('80), and I missed this.😢😊. So glad to see this. So powerful.❤❤❤
This was an interesting presentation. I hope the movie will be available sometime for those who don't have access to Netflix. It was fun to search for any relative in the 6888 on Family Search. Didn't find any. Our family is mostly from Michigan & Canada.
Thank you for sharing. Very informative for my adventures for my fulfillment for my family to bond with grace , mercy. Healing is meticulously. Thank you all for giving the inspiration.
Watching from Middletown Delaware. Can't wait to tune into Netflix for this amazing story of our always wonderful strong BLACK Women. Will definitely share with my grandchildren ❤🎉❤
This was insightful, inspirational and AMAZING. I cannot express how much I L🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎VE our people. Especially the STRONG 💪🏾💪🏿💪🏽 BLACK WOMEN. Thank You ALL. 🙌🏾

@familysearch It’s an honor to learn this lesser known history. However, with the premier of this movie on Netflix, it will become a well-known history 😀.
I’m from Frederick Maryland, listening to your podcast talk show really enjoying it. My oldest brother father was state president Delaware university Dr. Dean. William B.. did Lauder.

I finally got to see the movie! 🇺🇸🇺🇸As a WAC/AG veteran who served in Europe, it helped me appreciate these brave women's service even more! Thank you and may God bless you and your descendants! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤗🤗
I always knew of the black women's battalion but never know what they were called. Can't wait to see the movie. I saw this picture, but the true history was always hidden. My uncle was a member of "The Triple Nickle 555." The black men paratroopers unit. Learning Morris code was something that I was told to learn as a child, it was really important black children to learn back then. It was known as a survival technique that could be used with flashlights, mirrors or any item that reflects light but you have to know how to flash the light to get your message across to whoever.
As ppl of color we need to educate our children ourselves. They will never learn this history in schools today. There is a lot on utube we can learn. I watch a lot of documentaries. You would be surprised of things we didn't know. Also on WYES.
You can find books about them on Google or Amazon! We agree; we'd love for many more people to learn about these incredible women. Check out this insightful FamilySearch article for more information: www.familysearch.org/en/blog/6888-battalion

How amazing to have such a personal connection to someone so impactful!
